Every year, for over a decade and a half, we have been doing our Thanksgiving Day of Service event:
We provide Thanksgiving dinner for those less fortunate, as well as provide them the opportunity to select some clothing and toiletries via items donated by kind people such as yourself.
This year’s event will take place on Thanksgiving Day, Nov 28th, 2019, at the North Broad YMCA at the corner of Broad and Master Philadelphia, PA
We are looking for clothing donations, monetary donations, toiletries and volunteers. It’s time to clean out those closets and give the clothing to those who may be able to use it. (For the clothes that we don’t give away on Thanksgiving at the event, we donate to the local shelters.) We are look for anything that is slightly worn or new. We especially like to get winter clothing, coats, long sleeve shirts, jeans and shoes. We accept undergarments that are new (i.e. socks, underwear, etc) but NOT used. Please have the clothes washed prior to donating them.
In addition, we try to provide them with sample size toiletries (ie. toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, lotion). Therefore, if you have items such as these or know of a business or medical practice willing to donate those type of items, please share that with us.
Volunteer registration and monetary donations can be submitted via Eventbrite
We know this is a family holiday, and if you cannot stay for the entire event, but you can give us a few hours, that would be appreciated. You can also bring your family.
7:00am - 11:00am
11:00am - 3:00pm
There are many ways you can volunteer:
We need people to help with setup and sorting of the clothes, as well as the setting up of the food stations.
We need volunteers to serve our clients as they come in to enjoy the service we are providing.
We also need volunteers to help with clean-up and breakdown.
We are accepting toiletries, clothing and food donations.
Donations are accepted the day before – Wed
National Temple Baptist Church on Masters St between 16th and 17th St., Philadelphia
and at the YMCA the day of the event.
(All food donations must be accepted that Wed or before so that it can be prepared.)
Any questions, comments or concerns regarding the event feel free to contact us,
NOTE: If you cannot drop the donations off at the YMCA or church, you can make arrangements with us to perform the exchange.
We look forward to your involvement....but for the grace of God, there go you or I. You would want someone to give you a helping hand if you were down on your luck….so do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
We, the Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc – Omicron Delta Lambda Chapter, who lead this program in conjunction with the ODL Foundation, National Temple Baptist Church and the Columbia North YMCA, want to say thank you for your participation/donations, in advance. We consider it a privilege and an honor to serve our community. Our motto, “First of All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All,” embodies our dedication to uplift others. Thank you for helping others on Thanksgiving Day. You are a blessing in more ways than one!!!!!
Special Thanks to the Masonic Brotherhood, the Shriners, and the members of the various Pan-Hel Orgs who have participated with this project over the years. ALL of you have been and continue to be a blessing.
